Hello! My name is Justine and I am a 21-year old Erasmus student from Paris, France. I study creative management in the hope of finding work in the film industry. As for types of films, I love musicals, period dramas, and science-fiction. My favourite film is Jacques Demy's Les Demoiselles de Rochefort that I can entirely sing by heart. I'm staying in Nijmegen for 6 months and being a volunteer at O42 has been a great opportunity for me to meet local film lovers.
Meet me on Sunday, May 26, 19.00, when I wil introduce the film Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (Jacques Demy, France, 1967)
My name is Daria. I'm an Erasmus student from Moscow. Here, in Nijmegen, I'm studying philosophy and religious studies at Radboud University. Main subjects of my studies are phenomenology, Buddhism, and cinema and I'm working on my paper called 'The Phenomenology of Time in Wong Kar-Wai's Movies'. FilmhuisO42 for me is a chance to study cinema from a different perspective: non-academic and artistic. It's a beautiful place with and for beautiful people who are sincerely and deeply in love with the beautiful art of cinema.
Meet me on Sunday, June 2, when I will introduce two of my favorite films, directed by the Chinese director Wong Kar-Wai:
Sunday, June 2, 19.00: Chungking Express (Wong Kar-Wai, Hongkong, 1994)
Sunday, June 2, 21.00: Fallen Angels (Wong Kar-Wai, Hongkong, 1995)
I am Bensu Arslan from Ankara, Turkey. I study Philosophy. For six months, for my Erasmus exchange, I live in our lovely Nijmegen. Currently, I am trying to figure out how can I connect my passions with a job. Both the narrative and the visual aesthetics of cinema are important parts of my life, and I am trying to make these parts even bigger. So, I decided to learn what kind of feelings showing movies to people evokes and observe what they notice in the movies: the things that are easy to see or something else? FilmhuisO42 is a place where you can easily feel at home: a place where you belong. Every time I come here I feel happy to be here and working for something I like. Now, I have to choose a movie. I don't have a single favourite – I easily get overly attached to many movies. Pressed to make a choice, I want to choose the movie my mind was cast back to when I started to live alone in Nijmegen. Its called Frank. It is about a band trying to break through, and its creatively brilliant and odd members. I hope you enjoy!
Meet me on Sunday, June 9, 19.00, when I will introduce the film Frank (Lenny Abrahamson, U.K., 2014)
